Pappy and Pearl Hoel unknowingly established the beginnings of the greatest motorcycle rally in the world when they hosted a small race in the Black Hills near their Indian Motorcycle dealership. That was in 1938 and this year the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is celebrating its 85th anniversary by presenting Pearl’s Jam on Monday, August 4, honoring remarkable women of the motorcycling world.
This day-long event will feature a series of programs and presentations at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame, (999 Main St., Sturgis, SD). America’s first female motorcycle dealer, Lilly Farrow (Farrow Harley-Davidson in Columbus, Ohio) will be honored as she is accepted into the Sturgis Hall of Fame. There will be a tribute to Guinness World Record Holder Jessi Combs, a Meet-N-Greet with renown motorcyclist Gloria Struck (celebrating her 100th birthday), book signings by Cris Sommer-Simmons and Karen & Bill Davidson, and a chance to mingle with select artists. Free giveaways and special admission pricing are part of the package.
Every journey to Sturgis needs to include a visit to the Museum and this event makes the day even more memorable.
