The Lone Star Rally 2025 is open—November 6 through 9—and Galveston Island just became ground zero for the largest 4-day motorcycle rally in North America. No wristbands. No cover charge. Just four days of open throttle, free concerts, and 400,000+ riders turning the Gulf Coast into the loudest parking lot in Texas.

I have a unique experience with this particular rally as I was co-manager of Seawall Boulevard the first year the City of Galveston allowed the original Rally organizers to use that road; until that year, only Harborside had been in play. This translates to no history of Seawall being in use for the Rally so it was going to be full-blown “Semper Gumby” for the entire team learning what did and did not work.
I am based in Dallas and one of the organizers hired me to ride 300 miles south to Galveston and agreed to my terms (All Access credentials, my own golf buggy, private hotel room, walkie-talkie without the earpiece, and terms of payment.) I may sound high maintenance; however, I know precisely what elements I need on my side so that I can focus 100% on the client’s event.
There were 2 teams in play: Harborside and Seawall. HQ (headquarters) was located on Harborside and gave us walkie-talkies, golf buggies, and sent us over to the other side of the Island to set up Seawall. Upon arriving at 25th and Seawall, the City had properly placed the street barricades; however, a quick glance at the pavement showed me that the pre-production crew for the Rally had popped the chalk lines for 10’x10’ vendor booths — and I didn’t have any vendor booths on Seawall noted on the map. All of the displays coming in were trucks with cargo trailers and 18-wheelers which are about 70’-80’ in length + their display areas adjacent to the rigs.
I attempted to radio HQ for clarification and that is when we discovered the walkie-talkies were not powerful enough to reach across the Island…and 18-wheelers were already arriving. Candidly, I have this interesting knack for becoming calmer the more chaotic things are around me - and this quirk came in really handy on that day!
As the rigs arrived, I began space planning on the fly — remember, Semper Gumby! Thankfully, some of the people that negotiated deals with the Rally had the details on hand so that was incredibly helpful and most appreciated as it allowed me to see what had been contractually agreed to.
Also, the forecast had predicted “gale force winds” coming in off the Gulf for that evening beginning at dusk — and we only had the beach between us and Gulf. That mattered because, contractually, these rigs were all supposed to stay open until 10pm that evening but with winds expected to be 65+ mph, you are having to work with the crews to find out how fast they could strike their displays — and for that night, I had decided we were going to strike as soon as the wind picked up. When you have an assortment of $120,000+ custom builds next to Budweiser’s Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Experience with all of their awnings opening up from the semis, these kinds of details matter.
And the Dyno…I had asked this crew if it would be OK to place them at the end of the displays simply due to the amount of noise it generates, and I thought they were going to cry from happiness. It turns out that most organizers would intentionally place them in the middle to “draw attention”. Yes, theoretically, it draws attention, but it also makes it damn near impossible for adjacent sponsors/vendors to hold conversations with potential customers, which in turn, makes the Dyno crew Enemy #1 because their neighbors are losing sales whenever the Dyno is testing a bike.
I could easily go on - but this is to simply give a small glance at what is happening behind-the-scenes on a rally set up. Usually, there is a small group of people putting in a lot of work to make a rally a great experience for the attendees.
This isn’t marketing spin. It’s documented fact:
Attendance: 400,000–500,000 total, including ~150,000 motorcycles (Visit Galveston, Galveston Daily News, Montway Auto Transport, 2025).
Vendors: 300+ booths across The Strand, Harborside Drive, and the Seawall.
Economic impact: ~$115 million to Galveston (Galveston Park Board, 2025 estimate).
Entry: Free for all core events—concerts, bike shows, parades, vendor access. VIP upgrades optional.

Galveston closes 20th–24th Streets starting Tuesday for rally staging. Translation: the island is all in. Bring water, earplugs, and cash for the food trucks.
